The classic recipe for herring under a fur coat is your favorite New Year's salad. Optionally, you can add an apple for freshness or onions if you like. If you want to add onions, cut them very finely and scald them with boiling water to remove the bitterness.

herring fillet lightly salted, 200 g

potatoes

Boil the vegetables directly in the peel in a large saucepan. The beets will cook longer than potatoes and carrots, so put them earlier or use the finished cooked beets in vacuum packaging to save time.

Hard-boil the eggs, cool and peel, grate. Peel the vegetables and also grate on a medium grater. Cut the herring into small pieces.

Collect the salad in layers in a deep dish or on a flat plate, setting a cooking ring (pre-grease with vegetable oil from the inside). The first layer is potatoes.

Then carrots, then herring, again potatoes and carrots.

Then eggs and the last layer of beets. Wash each layer (except herring) with mayonnaise: it is very convenient to cut off the corner of the soft packaging - then the sauce will flow in a thin stream, mayonnaise will go less, and it will be distributed more evenly. Do not press the layers with a spoon so that the "fur coat" is airy.
