Grinding greatly affects the quality of the drink made from it.
Improper grinding, can spoil coffee even from elite varieties.
Types of grinding
The choice of grinding depends on how the coffee is prepared.
The following types of grinding are distinguished:
- Fine grind
To brew coffee in Turk (Jezve), it is best to choose extremely fine grinding.
This degree of grinding is considered a classic of coffee in Turkish or Oriental, because of & ldquo; dust & rdquo; a large amount of suspension is formed in a cup of coffee and such coffee is perceived as thicker and more viscous.
Grinding time in electric coffee grinder & mdash; 15-20 seconds. - Medium grind (medium grind)
For quality coffee made in a cone-type coffee maker, a medium grind is required so that the filter holes are not clogged. In addition, it should be as uniform as possible.
If there is no homogeneity, then compress such coffee in the holder to produce, some of the powder will not participate in the preparation, and as a result, the coffee will not brew well.
Grinding time in electric coffee grinder & mdash; 10-13 seconds. - Coarse grind (coarse grind)
To make coffee in a drip coffee maker or French press, you need to take coarse coffee. In this case, large grains of coffee will get stuck in the French press mesh and filters of drip coffee makers without getting into the cup, which, in fact, is needed.
With coarse grinding (with particles up to 0.8 mm in size), the brewing time (extraction - transition of soluble substances into the drink) should be at least 6-8 minutes .

The above three & shy; species are considered basic.
In addition to them, three more types of grinding are also distinguished:
- Fine espresso grind
This is needed for espresso makers where a jet of hot steam is passed through the ground beans. - Medium fine grind or Medium coarse grind
Intermediate grinding options, mainly medium, with deviations towards both finer and coarser grinding. - Pulverized
This type of grinding is similar to flour and is used exclusively for brewing real Turkish coffee using ibrik.
In addition to the degrees of grinding, an important factor in the preparation of a drink is the choice of coffee or mixture.
Some varieties are better suited for cooking in a Turk, others in a French press or espresso machine.
Do not & shy; mill as many grains as you can drink at a time, and no more.
Before grinding, it is necessary to carefully review the grains and remove impurities that impair the taste of the drink, since the degree of grinding of the grains depends on it.
The thinner the coffee is ground, the greater its total surface area and, accordingly, the shorter the extraction time.
However, by speeding up extraction, fine grinding increases filtration time in filter coffee makers as water slowly passes through the fine grinding.
When you buy weight coffee, try to grind the beans as close as possible to their brewing time.
When buying coffee beans, tell the seller from whom you buy the coffee how you will brew the coffee.
Then the coffee will be ground specifically for your brewing method.
